Is FEMM for me?

FEMM stands for Fertility Education and Medical Management. (https://femmhealth.org/)

FEMM is different from some methods of fertility awareness or natural family planning in that our focus is your health! Evaluating the health of your cycle is our number one priority, but helping you with your family planning goals (avoiding of achieving pregnancy) is a close second.

It’s ideal to learn FEMM cycle charting prior to becoming sexually active, but if you are already married/sexually active FEMM is ABSOLUTELY for you too.

FEMM is a great fit for you if…

  • You are single or not sexually active but want to learn more about your cycle and take charge of your hormonal health
  • You are dating or engaged and want to be prepared for making family planning decisions
  • You want to avoid pregnancy without hormonal contraception
  • You want to prepare for pregnancy or are ready to start trying for a baby!
  • You have been taking hormonal birth control for non-contraceptive reasons (heavy or irregular periods, PMS, etc.) and want to quit and restore your hormonal health
  • You have period problems – short or long cycles, heavy bleeding, extended spotting, period pain, etc.
  • You want to find a doctor who will take your cycle or hormonal concerns seriously and be prepared with the knowledge to collaborate with them in a productive manner
  • You want to learn to identify ovulation – or figure out if you are ovulating!

At this time, due to my level of experience and the parameters of the FEMM model, learning this method with me would not be a good fit for you if…

  • You are currently taking hormonal contraception and wish to continue (but we can definitely work together to get you off of contraception!)
  • You have an IUD (hormonal or non-hormonal)
  • You are postpartum/breastfeeding and have not gotten your periods back yet
  • You and your partner are unwilling to adjust your sexual activity to accommodate your fertility goals/intentions (i.e. abstain from vaginal intercourse during your fertile window if trying to avoid pregnancy)
